Fallon Rae's Story

Fallon Rae Brown was born in Dallas, TX, on June 3rd and joined her brothers, Connor and Aidan. She was a ray of sunshine. She was born with Down syndrome and a congenital heart defect that would require open-heart surgery at five months. She had a vibrant personality, high energy, and joy she was willing to share with everyone. Her smile was radiant, and her hugs were the warmest.
When she turned 1 year old, we moved back to Long Island and settled in Massapequa. We were blessed to be surrounded by our families and friends and nestled into our picturesque neighborhood of Nassau Shores. Fallon became a celebrity of sorts around our community. She was the kind of light that warmed a room without even trying, and you felt her all around you. Best of all, Fallon shared that love and sassy personality with us in many ways. Her daily affirmations of “you are beautiful” and "you are da best” turned your day around. Fallon was always included, whether at the bus stop, cheering on her brothers and the boys at John J. Burns Park, dancing at Create Dance, playing at special soccer, or cheerleading at PAC. She was part of every family moment, treated just like the other cousins at college family weekends, graduations, vacations, and sporting trips, and she enjoyed every party to the fullest!
Fallon gave so many of us the strength that we did not know we had. Her family learned about special education and advocating for services to meet the needs of people with all abilities. Along the way, Fallon inspired other parents and children to be seen and heard. Her teachers, aides, therapists, and student helpers continued these efforts, and we were grateful. She entered Unqua Elementary and was embraced as a general education student. She would have graduated in June 2024 as a fifth grader. In a special tribute, one of her friends said it best: “Her disability made her unique, not different.” She loved her friends and always wanted them to come to her house!
When news of Fallon’s passing spread throughout the community, the outpouring of love was seen and felt. The neighborhood was wrapped in a sea of yellow ribbons, and we were overwhelmed by the support for our family in Massapequa and beyond. Her smile, laughter, and shenanigans live within us as a memory.
How do you mourn this incredible loss? How do you fill the hole in all our hearts? There is no answer; that is why I started this foundation, so that we can all commit to keeping Fallon Rae's spirit alive through advocacy, outreach, and inclusion. Fallon was our light, a Rae of Sunshine; she brought so much joy in her 12 years and impacted many people. We celebrate Fallon every day that we live for her and with her in our hearts. That love is a bond that will remain forever. Inspired by Fallon Rae’s radiant spirit, we strive to bring awareness, kindness, and sunshine wherever it is needed most.
